First WardPark is a 4.6 acre urban park in the First Ward neighborhood of Uptown Charlotte. After a national competition to attract architects, the firm Shadley Associates was selected to build the park. [1] First WardPark is the culmination of a joint partnership between Levine Properties, UNC Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte. The new 4-acre park is located between East 7th, 9th and Brevard Streets, just east of the light rail tracks. This is one of Charlotte's newest parks - very centrally located in uptown Charlotte. Because it is so new, the plantings are still small, but it should just get nicer as they mature. A collaboration between Levine Properties, UNC Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and the City of Charlotte, this lively park features open green spaces, scenic walkways, and a dynamic playground perfect for kids to climb, slide, and explore. First WardPark is a 4.6-acre urban green space in Uptown Charlotte featuring an amphitheater, interactive fountains, and walking paths. The South part of the park has a big lawn as well as fountains and more walkways. There are three park benches carved in stone in the shape of an owl, rabbit and fox. Located in Uptown Charlotte, First WardPark is a 4.5-acre park spanning two city blocks. The park is anchored to the north by a proposed mixed-use building and the current UNC Charlotte Uptown Campus and to the south by the renovated Phillip Carey building.
